Overview URS 2020

The third edition of the International Conference on “Parallelism in Architecture, Engineering & Computing Techniques” and the second edition of the International Conference on “Urban Regeneration and Sustainability” were held together in collaboration with the University of East London in the United Kingdom, and took place virtually from the 7th to the 9th of October 2020, due to the travel restrictions caused by the pandemic.

The conferences addressed all the aspects of the urban environment. Urban regeneration was discussed thoroughly in the conference by rendering it as a process and a strategy that aims at transforming and renovating areas in the hope of upgrading public housing, public and private buildings, infrastructure, and services.

About the URS 2d Edition:

Urban regeneration has only proven to be successful when sustained which is why urban regeneration and the concept of sustainability go perfectly hand in hand. The populations within the earth inhabit more and more areas every day which is why urbanization still grows to be a challenge. The problems that are most commonly associated with urbanization are often high-density population, pollution, crime, poverty, inadequate infrastructure, and several others. Having a high population density is the cornerstone of the entire existence of this argument, some might say, which is partly true, as populations increase more than ever and with more inhabitants, who mostly migrate from rural areas.

Following the success of the 1st Edition international conference on “Urban Regeneration and Sustainability”, this year's 2nd edition will address all the aspects of the urban environment. Urban regeneration is discussed thoroughly in this conference, by rendering it as a process and a strategy that aims to transform and renovate areas in hopes of upgrading public housing, public buildings, private buildings, infrastructure, and services. It could also be considered as a highly effective way to improve urban performance by targeting countless areas and taking their economic levels and developments into consideration which could affect society either negatively or positively.

The level of difficulty to manage such problems with established solutions in several cities that differ from one city to another, depending mainly on the city's size, morphology, regulations, and several other factors. The bigger the city the more complex it becomes to manage it, requiring more solutions that will help in the regeneration of urban areas and to limit the negative impacts from and on anyone associated with the city.

Such challenges cannot be easily or entirely handled, although a city can become a much more efficient habitat by conserving resources in an attempt to minimize the communal effects caused by their consumption and depletion. The entirety of the solutions will be discussed throughout the conference research papers.

In this regard, IEREK is organizing this conference to help establish better and more efficient solutions and plans to help solve such rapidly growing challenges within countless numbers of cities around the world by viewing different aspects and solutions that are offered and discussed throughout the conference.

This conference also provides a context for a general debate between the researchers and the audience to help everyone understand the importance of addressing the challenges that have been recently increased with the rapid growth of urbanization and how to solve them efficiently.

Conference Session Moderators:

Britta Knobel Gupta

Founding partner, Studio Symbiosis Architects, Stuttgart, Germany.

The criteria for accepting abstracts for the conference are as follows; a relevant topic of the conference should be proposed with clear writing, aims, and objectives of the study clearly presented as well as a sound literature and methodology of work.

First Acceptance:

Authors will receive a notification message to know the feedback of the reviewers committee. If an author receives the acceptance of his or her abstract, he or she has to continue writing the full-length paper using the requested templates.

Uploading Full-Length Paper:

Authors who are allowed to upload their full-length paper(s) should use the same account details to upload their full paper(s).

Second Acceptance:

The final paper will proceed to the primary revision to be checked if it meets the conference proceedings standards. Once it gets accepted, the author will be informed to pay the fees so that it could be sent for the final revision by the scientific committee.

Payment:

In this step, and to proceed paper(s) that passed to final revision process and to get the final approval, authors have to pay the requested fees. Otherwise, the final revision process will not be considered for their papers.

Inspections and Final Approval of Full Papers:

The full papers that paid the requested fees will get finally inspected, either scientifically or linguistically. There will be a rigorous review process of full papers following the previous process according to the following criteria:

(1) Is the topic relevant to the conference?
