The International Conference on Conservation of Architectural Heritage which was held onboard over the Grand Palm Nile Cruiser which also gave all the participant a good approach to start this workshop. The scientific committee members to be part of our workshop were:
Prof. Douglas Comer (Principal, Cultural Site Research and Management, Inc. “CSRM” & Conference Chairman)
Prof. Antonella Versaci (Kore University of Enna, Italy & Scientific Coordinator of the Conference)
Prof. Ahmed Rashed (British University in Egypt “BUE”)
Dr. Monica Hanna (American University in Cairo “AUC”, Egypt)
Dr. Mohammed Assem Hanafy (University of Alexandria, Egypt)
Hamdy Elsetouhy (Researcher and Specialist in Conservation)
The workshop was significant not only because of the professors having joined/led the workshop but also the discussed topics which were taken from the inspiring heritage landmarks in Luxor then adding a strong scientific value. Groups have been divided or distributed according to the chosen topics from the scientific committee professors over each group to analyze & discuss their own subject to yield results, solutions, & reach conclusions.
Different subjects have been discussed and many opinions and theories produced regarding the value of Architectural Heritage in Luxor such as discussing the value of Hassan Fathy’s Architecture; one that has been reflected in his city “Old Gourna”.
IEREK would like to thank the scientific committee for their contribution to the workshop which was very useful for the community’s awareness about the Architectural heritage in historical cities.

The number and preservation of the monuments in the Luxor area are unparalleled anywhere else in the world. Actually, what most people think of as Luxor is really three different areas, consisting of the city of Luxor on the east side of the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor, and Thebes, which the ancient Egyptians called Waset, which is on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor.
