Importance of Energy Transition in Smart Cities

1,221

For the simple reason that a city is a large and permanent human ecosystem, citizens who live in them, specifically smart cities, expect to get the most in terms of the services and opportunities provided.

However, the rapid urbanization and increasing population in cities caused a major decline in the delivering of the services that can be provided as well as the cities’ infrastructures. Therefore, in order to limit the use of resources, save electricity, and have an even distribution of power; the transformation of cities to become smart is vital.

In order to modern the urban life in cities, it is essential for the current urbanization to develop strong strategies along with innovative planning. As a consequence, many cities are boosting the quality and performance of urban services by having digitalized, intelligent, and smarter services which generates smart cities.

With regards to smart cities, they are not only designed to meet the demands of citizens, but they are also invented to solve all the different challenges of people, society, and even urban communities. That is due to the increased communication between communities as well as the engagement between each city’s citizens.

In fact, the implementation of technology plays a very important role in solving urban problems. So, among the possible things which can solve them is the promotion of energy transition in smart cities. This promotion involves smarter and efficient ways to use energy in order to create better public services. In addition, it generates economic and social well-being in a sustainable way.

Seeing that, smart cities are becoming more influential in shaping the energy sector. In order to shape this sector and promote the energy transition, they should support the acceleration to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy besides encouraging residential and commercial energy generation.

In addition, smart cities should minimize the energy costs and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. This concept of improving energy efficiency can be done by the collaboration between city departments and local energy utilities.

Furthermore, the trend of increasing the dynamic approach to energy management is a very significant policy that enhances the promotion of energy transition in smart cities.

In conclusion, the concept of transformation to smart cities and promotion of energy transition in them is a very innovative approach that can makes cities’ growth more sustainable. Hence, it results in the planet going green in the long term.

That’s why; “Transition to Smart Cities: Structure and Transformation” is one of the topics that will be discussed in the conference: Cities’ Identity through Architecture & Arts (CITAA). Make sure not to miss it.
