The Grand opening
Today is the opening of the first museum devoted to Egyptian civilization, The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
NMEC is located on the archaeological site of El-Fustat in Old Cairo, overlooking the Ain El-Seera Lake, and will be the only museum in Egypt to present the full range of the richness and diversity of Egyptian civilization throughout the ages. Moreover, it will be the very first of its kind and of this scale in the entire Arab world.
The Museum will have numerous temporary exhibition spaces, an auditorium and an education and research center, as well as an exhibition on the development of the modern city of Cairo. It will act as a venue for a variety of events, including six thematic galleries covering the Dawn of Civilization, The Nile, Writing, State and Society, Material Culture, Beliefs and Thinking and the Gallery of Royal Mummies.
The NMEC will also have an important role to play in raising awareness of modern and contemporary Egyptian history and society, hosting events and temporary displays and exhibitions and providing an important center for the country’s youth. It has the opportunity to become an inclusive institution that serves as a forum for open dialogue, debate and the exchange of ideas.
IEREK invites you to attend the international conference on Cities’ Identity Through Architecture and Arts (CITAA) in Egypt, where you can seize the opportunity to visit this great museum, and nourish your mind and soul!
