Continuing with the list of the top 10 greenest cities in the world in 2015, these cities come on the list
- Vancouver, Canada:
It is considered one of the greenest cities in the world and willing to claim the greenest by 2020.
It uses green technology, such as garbage compactors that work on solar energy, which can hold 5 times the regular trash cans can hold, which means lower fuel consumption from the trash collecting trucks and lower carbon emission.
Add to that more than 200 open clean parks, which is better for the environment and also attract tourists.
- San Francisco, California:
In North America, and to be more specific in the United States, San Francisco is located and it is considered one of the greenest and cleanest city in the whole continent.
That is due to its environmental policies, like banning the use of plastic bags since 2009 along with the mandatory program for recycling for the waste products, which kept 77% of it away from the landfills.
The educational campaigns for the local residents were very effective in public awareness to the importance of the waste recycling. These campaigns were held by the staff of the waste-processing agencies themselves and aim to make San Francesco a waste-free city.
- Portland, Oregon:
Again in the United States, comes the city of Portland, Oregon as one of the greenest cities in 2015. The residents are well aware now of the environmental and sustainability standards, and already applying them down from carpooling, eating locally produced food up to recycling and LEED buildings.
20% of Portland’s energy sources come from renewable ones. Plus they banned the use of plastic bags, like san Francesco, and have lanes for bikes that are up to 250 miles that gave Portland, Oregon the title of United States most “bikeable” city
