1,077

Most people see Urban studies is an engineering science because it is related to urban planning and civil engineering, in the United states according to this concept it is considered within engineering science and the urban planner must study engineering, which is not only the public point of view, but also the opinion of most specialists.

On the other hand, many people see urban studies as a Social science because it is related to Urban Communities and their evolution, also, Urban sociology is interested in life and human interaction with urban areas, add to that, urban sociology standard discipline seeks to study structures, processes, changes and problems in Urban areas so It provides solutions for planning and politics design

In other words, we can say that it is a sociological study of cities and its role in community development.

Add to that, Urban Sociologists use statistical analysis, observation, Social Theory, Interviews and other methods for studying a range of topics, as well as the studying of immigration, demographic trends , economy ,poverty, Ethnicity relationship and economic trends.

They substantiate their theories through statistics and references of international organizations, such as the United Nations, World Bank , Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in urban studies as they have an important role in social responsibility.

There are others who see urban studies is a mix between social and engineering sciences and include both civil engineers and urban sociologies.

This overlap might be considered a problem in all branches of sociology and we can’t exactly identify to what extent it is close to urban studies.

Anyway, Urban studies can serve both social and engineering sides. So there is no contradiction between both sides, as both have one aim which is human’s welfare.
