Introduction

Over the past few years, the field of AI has seen tremendous growth and progress. With Open-AI spearheading efforts on the development of generative intelligence, it almost feels like we’re on the precipice of a new, AI-Augmented reality. Chat-GPT’s public release back in November 2022 shook heads all around the globe. The language-based model’s capabilities were stunning and almost human-like. While some of us were tinkering with what it could do, others feared its implications and cautioned of the world to come.

The truth is that AI has been humanity’s go-to assistant for a while now. It just hadn’t been able to be “creative” until very recently. For example, AI has been aiding humanity to advance in the medical field, by helping doctors and healthcare professionals make more accurate diagnoses and analyzing large datasets to identify patterns and insights that may be difficult to discern manually. Moreover, AI has been a major aid in agriculture, helping farmers to optimize their crops, reduce waste, and predict weather patterns to improve crop yield. Another usage of AI that has been behind the scenes, is the usage of algorithms in the entertainment and advertising industry. Things like engagement time, the links you click on, and the people you deem as friends or connections, all get fed as inputs to artificial intelligence algorithms that meticulously engineer the perfect advertisement or video recommendation to keep you engaged for longer.

Contemporarily, AI has breached a frontier that we have always thought was uniquely human. Creativity. Language-based models such as GPT, BERT, and XLNet can now generate genuinely human-like text. They can create stories, help you write emails, or even generate functioning code. It is the closest we’ve gotten to generative intelligence yet. It doesn’t stop there, however. AI models such as DALL-E and Midjourney can create works of art that are increasingly becoming indiscernible from human creations. So, the question is, how long until AI becomes truly sentient? What kind of threat does the rampaging progress of AI pose to humanity? How can we ensure the continued progress of AI without jeopardizing humanity?

Seeking answers to these questions and more, we invite researchers and experts from all over the world to join us at the first “Artificial Intelligence and Computational Technologies” conference. At this event, we will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, explore new frontiers, and envision the future of AI. Let us come together to pave the way for a smarter, more ethical, and more sustainable future.

ORCID, which stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a global, not-for-profit organization that aims to provide unique identifiers for authors, researchers, and scholars. ORCiD effectively eliminates duplication and errors regarding author names, affiliations, previous works, and all related academic data.

IEREK is a proud member of ORCiD, and we contribute directly to their initiative of clear and identifiable markers for researchers and scholars. As the first Egyptian partner to ORCiD in the organization’s history, we strongly believe that by utilizing ORCiD’s database and verification services, we become one step closer to achieving an accurate, and identifiable academic landscape.

We encourage our authors to input their ORCiD ID when registering for one of our conferences, submitting an abstract, or a full paper. By doing so, you directly link your research to your identity and affiliation and can showcase your various academic efforts all in one place. By Registering your ORCiD ID, you also increase your works’ visibility and provide easy access to your entire library of research and academic activity.
